Everything about Funky Buddha is extreme, from their recipes to their product naming. So when we began working on a new packaging and labeling system, nothing could be straightforward. Everything comes at you from an unexpected angle. Joshua Berman, the art director, developed the updated packaging and brand-application approach that would define all their series of products. He also directed Brazil-based illustrator Rubens Scarelli on a new family of illustrations to further realize the crazed potential of the Funky Buddha story.
Not only do the extreme illustrations, off-kilter packaging, and bold brand application embody the personality of Funky Buddha Brewery, but the whole effort led to greater-than-expected sales growth. The year after it was released, Funky Buddha Brewery was on #1 on IRI's Top 10 New Craft Brewery Vendors list.
Two years later, in 2017, Funky Buddha Brewery was purchased by Constellation Brands, who also own Corona and Ballast Point, among others.
