Food & Wine Features Bearded Iris Brewing Co. - Recent Rebrand By Punch Design Co.

A few weeks ago Bearded Iris Brewing Co. was featured as one of "The Best Craft Breweries to Visit in Tennessee." Only 8 breweries made the list, and they had this to say about them:

The first thing you need to know about Nashville is that there’s already so much beer here—at least two-dozen breweries, at last count. This has not, however, stopped ambitious types—for instance, the twenty-something duo behind this relatively new operation in the city’s Germantown section—from hanging out a shingle and getting to work. Named for Tennessee’s state flower, Paul Vaughn and Kavon Togrye’s operation has managed, in a very short period of time, to snag more than their share of raves for the brewery’s beautifully hazy ales. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch them releasing something ridiculous(ly cool); on any given day, their Homestyle, an 6% ABV, oated IPA brewed with so-hot-right-now, fruitier Mosaic hops, makes a great introduction to modern Tennessee beer.

Eurisko Beer Co. Launches New Brand By Punch Design Co., New Website by Craftpeak

In Asheville, North Carolina, known to some as the faithfully beating heart of the South's craft beer movement, a newcomer has just opened their doors: Eurisko Beer Co., founded by longtime friends, brewmaster Zaccary Harris and head brewer Zack Mason. Joshua Berman, principal of Punch Design Co., worked closely with the pair to develop the brand strategy and identity system, including the signature dove/raven icon

Working with Josh was a journey from start to finish. Rather than jumping immediately into icon sketches and brand identity concepts, he spent several Skype meetings really trying to understand who we were as individuals and what vision we had for our business. By the time we had begun discussing design ideas, he was already deeply in tune with our vibe. Josh went above and beyond what we expected. Could not have asked for a better design process... we really could not be happier with our branding...

Seriously f#$%ing nailed it!
— Zac Harris, Partner at Eurisko Beer Co.

In addition to the new brand, Eurisko also launched a new website by Craftpeak - an Asheville-based development agency specializing in the craft beer industry.

Funky Buddha Brewery Acquired By Constellation Brands

Last summer, August of 2017, it was announced that Constellation Brands, recent purchasers of Ballast Point, would also add Funky Buddha Brewery, of Oakland Park, Florida to its stable of high-end breweries.

Joshua Berman of Pitch Design Co. worked closely with Jon and the rest of The Brandit team to redevelop their packaging system and re-envision their brand identity a few years ago, while he was with the agency. Funky Buddha's two flagship products, Hop Gun IPA and Floridian Hefeweizen, he developed as part of the initial launch, working with Rubens Scarelli to create the amazing illustrations.

Funky Buddha was the #1 New BA Craft Beer Vendor of 2015, after introducing the new brand and packaging.

Joshua Berman Art Directs #1 and #5 on the 2015 Top 10 Craft Beer Sales List

CraftBeer.com posted an article about Information Resources, Inc.'s 2015 craft brewery sales data. According to their research, Funky Buddha Brewery of Oakland Park, Florida came in first with nearly $1 million in sales in 2015, and Wake Forest, NC-based White Street Brewing Co. came in fifth, with nearly a quarter-million in sales. We at Punch Design Co. are very excited because Joshua Berman, principal and creative director, had the honor of art directing these two breweries over the last few years.

From the article...

“Information Resources, Inc. (IRI) has released its results of the “Top 10 New BA Craft Vendors Based on Dollar Sales” for 2015 and it places Florida-based Funky Buddha Brewery as the front runner. Following close behind in 5th place is North Carolina’s White Street Brewing Company. Of the top five breweries, these two have something in common—The Brandit.”

— CraftBeer.com

Joshua Berman worked directly with both of these clients, developing all of the packaging for White Street Brewing Company and creating the brand-level art direction for all of Funky Buddha's products. Dan Bowman, principal of The Brandit, was the creative director on both of these clients. While Joshua Berman created the lettering for White Street along with the packaging design, he worked with Rubens Scarelli to develop the illustrations for each of Funky Buddha's packages.

Georgetown Presbyterian Church - Reformation Ale Bottle

At the end of this month is the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's 95 theses. To celebrate the milestone, Georgetown Presbyterian Church will host a hymnsong, and serve a special era-inspired German beer to honor the spirit of the reformers generally, but specifically honor Katie Luther - the wife of Martin. Joshua Berman, Punch Design Co. principal, designed the bottle for his home church.

In case you cannot read the text above -

In late October of 1517, a German monk named Martin Luther published a few ideas on theology - 95 to be precise. Though he guessed they might make for lively discussion, little did he know his these would spark a revolution - or rather a reformation.
A few years later Luther married another rebel, a nun-on-the-run named Katharina von Bora. "Katie" Luther wielded a dual reputation: for influence over her famed husband, and for brewing excellent ale. Many of the liveliest discussions of the Reformation took place in the Luther household, over several pints of Katie Luther's esteemed beer.
The discussion begun in 1615 continues today, five hundred years later. So raise a glass to Katie Luther and the Reformation."

The quote at the bottom "Here I stand - I can drink no other." is a reference to Martin's mythical quote at the Diet of Worms in 1521.

This post represents a thank you to Georgetown Presbyterian Church, Ceramic Decorating Co. for supplying the glass and decoration at-cost, the illustrator Steven Noble who supplied the mallet and nails illustration, and photographer Adrian Vaagnes.
